OUR JOURNEY
“This is our journey, this is you, this is me, this is we, this is us, this is life, this is ecstasy and woe, this is our energetic dance through layers of matter and space, this is our return to love.”
~ Rachel Elizabeth Schaf

Hidden Treasure
In the end, this steamer trunk’s transformation was more than just a restoration—it was a revival of its spirit. From layers of timeworn neglect to a piece infused with artistry and purpose, it now stands as a testament to both its storied past and its newfound elegance. Whether rolling into a cozy corner or standing proudly as a statement piece, it is ready for its next adventure—wherever inspiration may take it.

Divine Timing
Our last trip to Tennessee was just that; divine timing to help family, to progress our build at Poor Valley Creek, and to make new connections.

My Musings (R.E.S.)

The Resilience Waltz
It is a bit of a waltz, or one step forward and two steps back! We’ll keep on dancing, we’ll continue to appreciate the journey, we’ll honor how far we’ve come, and we’ll arrive wherever our destiny takes us. I just love surprises!

Custom Vanity Cabinets
I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have a husband who is so skilled with his hands; all I have to do is think up a design and he creates it!

Feeling Crafty
It is a little piece of our history that, we hope, will be preserved forever.

Hello Autumn!
We hosted our second annual wine-tasting and pairing party on Saturday evening, September 21st, 2024. It was a colorful welcome to Autumn and an intimate evening outdoors with some of our friends and family.

Our Future Winery
It was the craziest thing! We were both astounded by the number of Katydids that were sitting ALL OVER the building, both inside and out! We must have seen a hundred or more of them!

Labor of Love
Friday before Labor Day weekend we headed back to Tennessee with a loaded trailer in tow.

Summer Family Fun
The weekend was a flurry of activity with our kids, their partners, and a few additional family members and friends. It was a beautiful way to kick off summer, just a few days before the summer solstice, enjoying nature and each other’s company in the land of life. I believe I speak for everyone when I say we made memories that will last forever!

April Showers of Blessing
Special thanks to our good neighbor Jay Carbutt and his helper, Jack, who made the trek down from Pennsylvania to complete the installation of the Mini Splits! I am ecstatic to say we now have heating and air conditioning, WOOT!
A day of Wine and Roses
We hosted our very first wine tasting!
It was a fine range of drink for eight worldly-wise palates, encompassing avid wine-drinkers and the occasional sippers, all of whom shared candid commentary and authentic reviews.

The Art of Being Alive
We pray for speedy recovery, we “roll with the punches”, and we continue to see life as beautiful regardless of our circumstances…this is the art of living.

Crew of two, we get $h!t done!
Moving over 70 tons of concrete, gravel, and dirt, we formed and poured the 24x40 concrete pad where our future garage/winery will sit. We also dug and poured a footer in front of the house where we will be extending the porch. Let me just say, laying concrete is not woman’s work, at least not me, and I have the utmost respect for those who do it every day for a living (I had to look up the stats: 2.9% of all concrete workers in the US are women, while 97.1% are men).

Demolition Duo
The past two years have certainly served as a reminder, how often we take things for granted, like the commodity of running water/electricity, and how much we have to be grateful for each and every day.

A Few Steps Closer
As we head into the month of July, we are counting our blessings! So grateful for traveling mercies this week, for helping hands, for shared memories, and for the accomplished work. While we know the road ahead is long and we have so much more to do, it sure is a pleasure to look back at how far we have come!

Diligent Hands
“Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.” Proverbs 10:4

The Tennessee Trio
This marks the fifth working trip to our Poor Valley Creek property over the course of thirteen months. Each visit is a total of twelve hundred miles (six hundred each way) and most folks could not begin to fathom the amount of time, planning, preparation, physical labor, and money invested with each visit. It has truly been a test of endurance, perseverance, and patience!

We placed a camera on our property in September and it’s been fun seeing some of the first wildlife visitors that have passed by!
