Labor of Love
Friday before Labor Day weekend we headed back to Tennessee with a loaded trailer in tow. Taylor, Dakota, and Lucas met us at the property and stayed with us until Monday afternoon.
While Dave had the extra manpower, he decided to work on the barn run-in shelter first. The post holes were dug, and footers were poured during our family retreat in June, so the guys had to set the posts, mount the ledger and header boards, run the rafters and stringers, and lay the tin roof. All in two days’ work!

The remainder of the weekend was spent cutting, hanging, and laying the cement board in both of the bathrooms so we could begin tiling the showers and floors. Of course, there were a few good meals and fun 4-wheeler rides in the agenda too!
Dave and Taylor added a decorative cedar gable bracket above the front porch roof on Monday morning before the kids headed home.
Monday afternoon, Tuesday, and Wednesday were spent cutting, laying, and grouting the tile in the bathrooms.
The sunset was beautiful on Tuesday evening! We sat with the cows after dinner, enjoyed some wine in our yeti mugs, and took in the view!
On Thursday night, just a couple of days past the new moon, the night sky was a magnificent sight to behold! We went for a nice 4-wheeler ride around the property and snapped a few pictures of the stars.
Dave and I spent Friday working on the chicken coop. We finished the roof and started on the siding. We’re repurposing the tin and the boards from the small barn that we tore down in September of last year: https://www.poorvalleycreekvineyard.com/ourjourney/demolition-duo. It took a little extra time to pull all of the old nails out of each board, but we are in love with the way it looks. I can’t wait to see it finished!
We treated ourselves to a nice dinner in town at the Red Dog on Main Taproom on Friday night. Their wood-fired pizza was DELICIOUS, and the cocktails and live music were also great!
Saturday morning we spent five hours cleaning up and loading our trailer for the long drive home. Time to start planning for our next visit in October!
